CIMCORP CAREERS —
Engineer going IT
Toni’s interest in computers led him to Cimcorp. His work in IT Department is not predictable, nor is it easy or simple, but he enjoys the challenges. In his book, exceptionally skilled people and an atmosphere that encourages co-operation are highly valued.
From traineeship to challenging tasks
Toni grew up on a small farm watching his dad fix machinery like Caterpillars for living, and so it was natural for him to pursue studies within engineering. However, while still at school, he spent nights fixing computers along with a Cimcorp employee and was offered an IT summer trainee position here at Cimcorp. Toni took the opportunity and is, luckily for us, still working here to this day, now as a Network Specialist.
There is no such thing as a typical day at work for Toni.
“There is no particular time or place for an incident to happen. Somedays I operate as a helpdesk, sometimes I spend all day and night in here solving a problem. Balance is the key. Intensive work days require some low key days with routine tasks.”
Due to the nature of the job, you have to be flexible and open to uncertainty and inconsistency. “This job requires patience, constant learning and problem solving initiative.” As the technology has evolved, so has his job description. “Now that everything is so virtual, many problems can be solved remotely.”
Good atmosphere and high level of expertize
Toni appreciates the great spirit at work and appreciates the frequent group activities that take place among the staff. “People around here are not too serious and that’s the great thing about this company, fun and relaxed colleagues.” Toni thinks that the competence of the employees at Cimcorp builds a great and supportive atmosphere that feeds innovation and openness. Toni believes that the power of teamwork cannot be overestimated. It is important to have comprehensive general knowledge in order to understand cause-effect relations, but even more so it is essential to have specialists across different sectors. “You don’t have to know everything about everything, but you do have to know everything about something.”
Motivated by opportunities and prospects
In his job Toni is driven by all the possibilities that can be achieved with information technology.
“The milk you drink and the tires you drive are after all handled by the software and automation we provide. Fundamentally, it’s all about simplifying processes and facilitating people’s lives.”
Toni believes that in order to remain its competitiveness in the growing market, Cimcorp’s best assets are to remain agile and ability to customize solutions while also standardizing and developing them. The main lesson Toni has learned throughout the years working at Cimcorp is that there is not a single problem that can’t be solved.
