Warehousing, picking and dispatch |
|
| |
|
The controlled logistics chain should not be broken just because the tires have reached the warehouse. Whether you use state-of-the-art automated warehousing technology or a more conventional manual warehouse with forklift trucks, the process is fully managed by Cimcorp’s WCS.
The warehouse may be directly connected to the tire manufacturing or at a separate location. The layout of the warehousing can be adapted to the requirements in terms of storage capacity and throughput. The site conditions also have to be considered: how high you can build, the shape of the plot, the road access and so on. We can go high - over 40m. We can work either with conventional buildings, or a clad rack structure where the racking structure itself holds the walls and ceiling. Automated warehousing of this type is a mature technology with many systems in operation in a wide variety of industries. These systems are proven; they give high availability and - being fully automated - low operating costs.
Choosing instead to use a manual warehousing operation does not mean a loss of control. The key when designing your warehouse, whichever solution you go for, is not just to address the storage needs but also to make sure that the handling capacity provides fast response to the next step in the process – the picking and dispatch.

Picking and dispatch
Picking and dispatch is the direct link with the market. Response has to be accurate and fast. The Cimcorp solutions for order picking have a tremendous effect on the truck loading times and the overall efficiency in the shipping area. Dispatch operations are often challenging. From a possible mixture of own production and inter-company arrivals, customer orders must be delivered correctly and on time. Ours is a two-stage process. Firstly – tires for orders to be delivered are withdrawn from the warehouse, depalletized by a robot and stacked in floor storage ready for picking. Secondly – on advice of vehicle arrival the robot picks the order to the allocated output conveyor or to a palletizing robot, depending on your delivery mode. This is a just-in-time process which offers many advantages. Vehicle turnaround time is the shortest possible, using fewer trucks and trailers. In short – the automated order-picking system will give you the best possible customer response at the lowest cost. Alternatively it will allow you to maximize throughput in an existing facility.
Storage and picking are based on FIFO, and the WCS maintains control, tracking and communication with host systems throughout. The stock on floor matches the orders precisely.
